Truss Form recently supplied the roof trusses for a new £44M retirement village at Wixam (near Bedford) being built by Galliford Try Partnerships for client The ExtraCare Charitable Trust.
The village featured 230 mixed-tenure apartments, alongside a range of communal facilities, including a village hall, library and IT suite, bar and bistro, fitness gym, hairdressing and beauty salon and shop.
Due to the complexity of the roof structure Comprehensive Carpentry Services Limited (CCS) @ Brentwood were chosen to undertake the roof truss installation on a supply and fix basis. CCS brought Truss Form on board via Travis Perkins Central Sales, based on our previous experience with ‘challenging jobs’.
Truss Form made use of MiTek’s experienced design office to liaise directly with the architect and contractors and come up with a practical roof design using MiTek’s EC5 compliant PAMIR software. With an apex height of up to 6.4m on the main roofs the trusses were designed to be installed with a flat top ‘base’ truss first that could then be used as a working platform for the installation of ‘top hat’ trusses for H&S reasons. Truss Form manufactured and supplied nearly 3000 trusses to complete the scheme.
